American Geophysical Union Fellows
Geophysicists selected for Fellowship by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) have made exceptional achievements in promoting public awareness and understanding of solid-Earth, space, hydrologic, and atmospheric and ocean sciences. These contributions, for which two former SRI staff members have been recognized, further the AGU's objective of disseminating information of global societal concern. Each year, one out of a thousand of the membership is selected.
2008 Tom Slanger, for his research and contributions in the study of the airglows of the terrestrial and planetary atmospheres, particularly in the use of the spectrographs at major telescopes for such investigations. His work in SRI's Molecular Physics Laboratory in the Physical Sciences Division emphasizes both the field studies and laboratory studies that contribute to unraveling the complexities of the photochemistry of upper atmospheres.
