Disaster Relief Efforts
Hurricane Sandy has left tremendous, nearly unimaginable damage in its wake. While SRI's staff members and facilities have made it through the storm safely, the devastation has included storm-related deaths, left millions of people without power, and created many billions of dollars in property damage and economic loss. To help those in need, SRI has contributed to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Hurricane Sandy and to the disaster relief efforts of the Humane Society of the United States to help rescue and care for animals and reunite them with their owners.
In 2011, SRI joined the many organizations and individuals helping Japan by contributing to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund. SRI Japan staff donated food supplies and money to the city of Iwaki, which is near the heavily damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant. SRI also donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund following the disastrous 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
