2000: Doug Engelbart receives the National Medal of Technology for his innovations in personal computing.

     
   

2001: SRI celebrates 55 years of contributions to clients and society.


2001:
The institute receives an American Lung Association Clean Air Award for its decades-long commitment to clean air and the environment in the San Francisco Bay Area.

     
   


2002: SRI's Washington, D.C., office commemorates 50 years of work in the U.S. capital region.


2003: SRI spins off PacketHop, Inc., which provides mobile broadband communications to first responders, consumers, and enterprises.

     
   

2004: SRI spins off Artificial Muscle, Inc., a smart materials company.

2006: SRI opens an office in Taipei, Taiwan, People's Republic of China.

SRI is 60
2006: SRI celebrates its
60th anniversary; its Molecular Physics Laboratory turns 50, and the Artificial Intelligence Center is 40.
     
   

2006: SRI is named a "Silicon Valley Best Place to Work" by San Jose Magazine.
