Brian Engleman

Brian Engleman is a director of business development in SRI International's Innovation Programs group. In this role, he is responsible for identifying opportunities to share SRI’s research, development, and commercialization best practices with customers worldwide. Engleman leads and develops SRI’s Five Disciplines of Innovation™ (5DOI) program, which helps clients improve commercialization efforts by implementing techniques for creating compelling value for customers, stakeholders, and their organizations. He has brought dozens of 5DOI programs to SRI’s partners in the U.S., as well as in Malaysia, Japan, Finland, Germany, and Canada.

Engleman has more than 20 years of management and business and corporate development experience in innovative environments, from start-ups to multinational companies. His expertise is in identifying and developing technologies, particularly in the energy and chemical industries.

Prior to SRI, Engleman was co-founder of Intellectual Licensing and Capital Group, where he helped develop new start-up businesses and handled IP licensing in a variety of industries, ranging from chemical and biotech to information technology and consumer products. Earlier, he was the director of corporate and business development at Catalytica Energy Systems. He was responsible for identifying new business opportunities and executing merger-and-acquisition activities, including the acquisition and integration of new businesses by Catalytica. He also led several multi-company programs in the areas of polymer research and fuel cells. Engleman also worked for Solvay Interox, where he managed two chemical plants and assisted with a major corporate reorganization.

Engleman holds an MBA from Rice University; a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley; and a certificate in biotechnology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
