Eric Greenwald

Eric Greenwald, Ph.D., a research analyst in SRI’s Center for Education Policy, is experienced in research design and analysis, with a focus on mathematics education, science education, and the use of technology in formal and informal educational settings.

Greenwald is currently a senior researcher on the Science Learning Activation Lab (ActLab), a collaborative effort with the University of Pittsburgh and the University of California, Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science. With funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, ActLab has been investigating the idea that powerful science learning experiences should activate young learners in ways that set them up for more powerful future engagement with science. Greenwald is also a lead researcher on a large-scale study of the National Science Foundation’s Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program. ITEST focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning for teachers and students in formal and informal settings and has a special emphasis on the use of technology. He is also involved in the High School Leadership Initiative, which promotes the development of professional communities in support of distributed school leadership. Most recently, he has been helping lead a small research team evaluating a blended learning pilot in the Oakland Unified School District in California.

Greenwald holds a Ph.D. in teacher education from Stanford University and a master’s degree in science education from Teachers College. Before his doctoral work, he taught math and science at an innovative public high school in New York City. Greenwald also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Congo.
