Geneva Haertel
Geneva Haertel, Ph.D., is the director of assessment research and design in the Center for Technology in Learning at SRI International. With 30 years of experience conducting research on assessment, student learning, and K–12 education programs, she has published more than 55 articles and book chapters on assessment design, student learning, and the conditions that promote student achievement.
Haertel was the principal investigator of the project funded by the National Science Foundation that resulted in the development of the online assessment design system referred to as PADI (Principled Assessment Designs for Inquiry). Assessments designed using PADI have been used to meet requirements of No Child Left Behind, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).
Currently, Haertel is the principal investigator of two large-scale assessment projects on the use of evidence-centered assessment design, the NAEP: Interactive Computer Tasks and the Evidence-Centered Assessment Design for PARCC.
