Jaime Heiss
Jaime Heiss is a postdoctoral researcher in the Center for Neuroscience and Metabolic Diseases in SRI Biosciences. In this role, he focuses on understanding the mechanisms that regulate sleep in mammals at the level of single neurons by performing in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology. By recording their membrane potential, he investigates the neuronal response to a sensory, optogenetic or pharmacologic stimulus of specific neuronal populations.
Prior to joining SRI, Heiss worked at the Weizmann Institute of Science as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Ilan Lampl, where he investigated how the brain process sensory information by recording neurons from the somatosensory cortex.
Heiss received a B.S. in electrical engineering and a M.S. in biomedical engineering from Universidad de Chile, at Santiago, Chile. He obtained his Ph.D. in neurobiology from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel.
