John Kelly
John Kelly, Ph.D., is senior program director of the Center for Geospace Studies at SRI International. For more than 25 years he has been a leader in the use of incoherent scatter (IS) radar for remote atmospheric sensing.
Under his direction, the National Science Foundation facility in Sondrestrom, Greenland, has become the world's leading location using IS radar for remote atmospheric sensing. His role in moving this radar project from Alaska to Greenland was a significant achievement.
Kelly was also instrumental in designing, promoting and establishing SRI’s Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR) program despite enormous logistical and political barriers. As a result, SRI is regarded as one of the highest-ranking institutions in IS radar research.
Kelly was named an SRI Fellow in 2007.
