Meet . . . Theresa Keeler

Focus @ SRI:
Systems and software engineering with an emphasis on creating multimedia products used for interactive training

Title:
Research Engineer, Engineering & Systems Division

Day in the Life @ SRI:
A typical day finds me working on one of several projects, ranging from building an online training course, to creating 3-D virtual models, to coordinating live training support with members of the Army National Guard. I enjoy collaborating on a variety of tasks, not only those within my small group (Intelligence and Information Systems) but also on others within ESD. During the afternoon or at night, I visit the on-site SRI gym for a workout.

Before SRI:
SRI is my first full-time job after graduating from college. While I was a student, I did a clinic project for Qualcomm and spent summers working at Loral Western Development Labs (WDL).

Academics:
B.S. in general engineering, Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California

Why SRI?
I knew almost immediately that I wanted to work at SRI after visiting the campus for the first time. Everyone I spoke to that day was incredibly enthusiastic. I learned that SRI has been the cornerstone of so much innovation. I felt that if I worked here, I would contribute to something special. Also, I love the Menlo Park location and the benefits SRI has to offer.

Inspiration and Motivation:
Working with a great group of really, really smart people. I love it when my team gets kudos from the client on a job well done.

Away from the Office:
I enjoy almost every sport, especially biking, jogging, triathlons, basketball, and tennis. I also play the piano quite a bit.

Languages:
I took five years of French in school, but that didn't seem to help me speak to waiters in Paris.

Proudest Professional Accomplishment:
During my first year at SRI, I was honored to give part of my team's final presentation to our clients in Japan.

Words of Wisdom for New SRI Team Members:
Take advantage of the wonderful benefits SRI offers. Try lunch in downtown Menlo Park on Santa Cruz Ave. If you're looking for housing, www.craigslist.org is an excellent resource for shared housing and apartments.

Favorites:
My favorite authors are Vladimir Nabokov and Michael Carver. The movie I can watch over and over is Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," but it is edged out by "The Matrix" for my number-one spot. Favorite piano composers: Bach, Debussy, Mozart and Chopin.
