Director, Microcircuit Emulation Center
Leslie R. Avery

Leslie R. Avery is the director of the Microcircuit Emulation Center at SRI International. In this role, he leads a team of about 50 scientists, engineers, and technicians who design, produce and test integrated circuits to support the nation’s weapons systems through the Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits and the Advanced Microcircuit Emulation programs. These are multi-year programs funded by the Defense Logistics Agency.

Avery has more than 40 years experience in the semiconductor industry, working initially for RCA in the UK on analog and digital integrated circuit design for the European market. After joining SRI in 1979, he worked on early digital TV systems and on-chip electrostatic discharge protection of analog and digital integrated circuits (ICs), IC reliability engineering, and both analog and digital fabrication processes and device structures.

Avery holds 43 U.S. patents (filed in multiple countries) and is a co-inventor on a Japanese patent.

He has published papers in Europe and the U.S., and received the RCA Gold Medal for Technical Achievement and several annual technical achievement awards. In 1996, Avery was honored by the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame and currently serves as vice president on its Board of Trustees.
