Meet . . .Marty Mallonee
Focus @ SRI:
Through strategic public relations and marketing communications programs, I develop business for SRI and build our reputation.
Title:
Manager, Corporate and Marketing Communications
Day in the Life @ SRI:
I never have the same day twice! Every day, I handle calls from reporters around the globe who want to learn about SRI's work. I write the SRI Digest e-newsletter, press releases, and marketing collateral; facilitate interviews; plan events; and collaborate with SRI's business development and research staffs on their marketing efforts.
Before SRI:
I worked in marketing for medical information systems companies and a 3-D software company; in college I was editor of the weekly campus newspaper.
Academics:
Bachelor of Arts in mass communication, concentration in journalism, from Towson University (Towson, Maryland)
Why SRI?:
The amazing variety of innovative projects going on here at any given time makes it a pleasure to communicate with the media and the world about SRI.
Inspiration (what motivates you):
People who really care about the work they do, and who believe it makes a difference in some way, are inspiring to me. I see a lot of them at SRI.
Away from the Office:
I love watching old movies. I collect vintage advertising, enjoy trivia games, taking walks, and have recently started practicing yoga.
Languages:
English, a little French
Proudest Accomplishment:
Moving across the country by myself to start a career in marketing
Words of Wisdom for New SRI Team Members:
Remember that success is a journey and not a destination.
Favorites:
I'm a bit of a news junkie (which befits my job, I suppose). I scan websites such as CNN.com, sfgate.com, and news.google.com throughout the day to keep on top of what's new. I'm always scanning the headlines for news articles about SRI-there are usually several a week. |
