R. Timothy Short
R. Timothy Short is manager of the Chemical Sensors Group in the Marine Technology Program at SRI International. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from Florida State University, and Ph.D. in experimental atomic collision physics from the University of Tennessee.
Following a one-and-a-half-year post-doctoral position at the Manne Siegbahn Institute of Physics in Stockholm, Sweden, he worked for eight years as a research scientist in the Chemical and Analytical Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee. The major emphasis of his work there was instrumental development in mass spectrometry.
Short left ORNL in 1997 to work as a sensor development engineer within the College of Marine Science’s Center for Ocean Technology at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2007, he joined SRI’s newly formed Marine Technology Program as Chemical Sensors Group manager in St. Petersburg. At USF and SRI, his primary research interests have included development of underwater mass spectrometers and miniaturization of mass spectrometers.
