Steven Samuelsson
Steven Samuelsson, Ph.D., director of Cell and Molecular Imaging in SRI Biosciences, offers custom, imaging-based solutions for researchers from a variety of disciplines. As a principal scientist, he provides expertise in microscopy, immunochemistry, imaging and analysis in biological and materials sciences.
Samuelsson’s background is in cell and membrane biology, with more than 25 years of experience in microscopy- and cytochemistry-based investigations. Prior to joining SRI’s Biosciences Division in 2007, he headed the microscopy function at (OSI) Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development and commercialization of novel therapeutics to treat diseases of the eye; his special interests were in preclinical development, cell biology, and models of neo-vascularization. At Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, he led the Cell and Molecular Imaging group and was a member of the bone, muscle, and vascular biology teams.
Samuelsson received his Ph.D. in membrane biology from University of Maryland School of Medicine and a B.S. from University of California at Berkeley. He was a postdoctoral fellow in biophysics at Johns Hopkins University and a staff fellow at NHLBI/NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.
