Teresa McCaffrey

Teresa McCaffrey is a research analyst in SRI International's Center for Education Policy. She works on the National Evaluation of Writing Project Professional Development, the Evaluation of the California Subject Matter Projects, and Strengthening Science Education in California. On these projects, she uses both qualitative and quantitative analysis to study the implementation of professional development, participating in survey development, interview protocol development, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

McCaffrey began her research career at the Center for Research on the Context of Teaching at Stanford University. There, she worked on a national evaluation of a foundation-sponsored professional development initiative in three urban school districts, investigating issues of teacher learning, school change, and interaction with the district policy environment. Subsequently, she worked at the Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy at the University of Washington, where she studied school districts' role in supporting professional learning.

She also worked with the Learning Research and Development Center on a study of how teachers learn to use innovative math programs in urban settings and on a study of the learning that occurs in the intersection between research and practice. Before working on research, she was a middle and high school teacher for four years.

McCaffrey holds a M.A. in education from Stanford University and a B.S.F.S. in humanities in international affairs from Georgetown University.
