Theodore Mill is an expert in oxidation chemistry and the environmental fate of chemicals, whose research on how reactions in sunlight and water change the molecular structure of chemicals in surface waters has led to better predictive models for their fate. Experimental methods for evaluating these chemical changes have been developed for the EPA and European agencies to enable regulators to produce more reliable fate assessments on new chemicals introduced into the environment.
Mill's more recent research on the bio-oxidation of proteins has provided new insight into the inflammatory processes associated with chlorine attack on respiratory tissues and to new compounds for preventing long-term damage.
Mill is chairman of SRI's Fellows Award Committee, which annually chooses new SRI Fellows. Mill was himself named an SRI Fellow in 1996.
