Meet Jennie Wang, Program Director, Pharmaceutical Sciences Laboratory
Focus @ SRI:
My focus at SRI is to provide analytical chemistry services to the National Cancer Institute's development of therapeutic agents for cancer and AIDS treatment. Tasks include chemical assay method development and validation, chemical structure confirmation, quality assurance of chemical and formulation entities, stability surveillance and shelf-life monitoring of therapeutic agents and their formulated products, impurity identification, and determination of physical constants of chemicals.
Day in the Life @ SRI:
My typical day includes planning and designing experiments, analyzing data, reviewing reports, and communicating with clients. Every day is blessed with challenging work, friendly and talented coworkers, and a healthy dose of stress.
Before SRI:
I joined SRI directly after I earned my Ph.D.
Academics:
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University, Japan
Why SRI?
I like the sense of doing important work that benefits society, not just the company. SRI offers endless opportunities to address important challenges. It's the best place to use all the knowledge you've learned to solve real problems.
Inspiration and Motivation:
People tend to think analytical chemistry is "just a service". We may not invent anything directly, but we solve mysteries. It is exciting when I can put all the pieces of puzzles together and discover the truth of a sample.
We are doing something that needs to be done. We are a reliable part of a big machine: drug discovery and development.
Away from the Office:
I enjoy cooking because it's somewhat related to chemistry, and food is so enjoyable. Jigsaw puzzles are my favorite game. I also enjoy reading and traveling with my family.
Proudest Professional Accomplishment:
Receiving an outstanding performance evaluation for the contract that I manage.
Languages:
My mother tongue is Cantonese-Chinese. I also speak Mandarin-Chinese, English, and Japanese.
Words of Wisdom for New SRI Team Members:
Catch the opportunity to learn. Don't wait for it to come to you.
