Database Replication and Consistency Management
Open System for Consistency and Replication
OSCAR is the result of several years of research and development in the
replication and consistency management of internetwork systems that are
characterized by time-varying bandwidth on its data-transport links,
and by frequent network partitions. Our approach incorporates a novel
technique, called mediation, to ensure the efficient, reliable propagation
of replicated information. OSCAR achieves mutual consistency among internetwork
replicates of a database by using data semantics to resolve update conflicts.
OSCAR is currently used by the U.S. Army to manage a distributed database
of weather information.
