National Marine Fisheries Service Southwest Fisheries Science Center Replacement at the University of California at San Diego and Scripps Institution of Oceanography
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) plans to replace its existing National Marine Fisheries Service regional headquarters and laboratory buildings located on land leased from University of California at San Diego in La Jolla, California. NOAA’s preferred site for its Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) is located farther inland than its existing facilities, which are currently threatened by erosion of a high coastal bluff.
SRI's Envirotechnical Program helped NOAA establish programmatic requirements for its SWFSC, identified viable site alternatives near the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and prepared conceptual design renderings and development cost estimates. To satisfy National Environmental Policy Act and California Environmental Quality Act requirements, SRI is currently preparing a combined environmental impact statement/environmental impact report for replacement of the existing SWFSC physical plant. In addition, SRI prepared an updated alternatives analysis for the NOAA Office of Administration.
