Proposed Homeport for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Ship Oscar Dyson, Kodiak, Alaska
To better meet the mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and improve marine operations services in the Bering Sea and the Gulf of Alaska, NOAA proposed the establishment of a single-vessel homeport facility in the Kodiak, Alaska, area to support the NOAA ship Oscar Dyson on a long-term basis. SRI’s Envirotechnical Program was tasked to support the Office of Marine and Aviation Operations by researching and preparing an environmental assessment (EA).
SRI analyzed the effects of modifying or constructing piers for NOAA vessels and the acquisition of dedicated shore facilities. The final EA for the proposed action was distributed in September 2003. Construction of the proposed pier and shore facilities was scheduled to commence in December 2004 and conclude in 2005.
