National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Marine Operations CenterSeattle: Homeport Alternatives Analysis
To secure homeport facilities for the next 10 years or more, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tasked SRI's Envirotechnical Program to identify and evaluate alternative homeport opportunities for four Office of Marine and Aviation Operations ships located at its Marine Operations Center at Lake Union in Seattle, Washington. SRI was tasked to develop and apply site evaluation criteria and evaluate potential alternative homeports for consideration. Over 40 prospective homeport sites were screened and four feasible alternatives identified in the greater Puget Sound area, plus single-vessel homeport opportunities located in Ketchikan and Kodiak Island, Alaska. The final alternatives analysis was presented to NOAA in June 2000.
