The National Academies
The National Academies are composed of the National Academy of Science, established in 1863; the National Academy of Engineering, established in 1964; and the Institute of Medicine, established in 1970. The Academies are private, nonprofit, self-perpetuating associations of distinguished scholars engaged in scientific, engineering, and medical research. SRI's Envirotechnical Program has engaged in several efforts in support of the Academies, and continues to provide copies of specialized graphics for inclusion in various Academy reports (such as "Tracking and Predicting the Atmospheric Dispersion of Hazardous Material Releases: Implications for Homeland Security," issued in 2003, and "Flash Flood Forecasting Over Complex Terrain: With an Assessment of the Sulphur Mountain NEXRAD in Southern California").
