Radar and Communication Facilities Siting and Permitting
SRI's Envirotechnical Program can perform siting investigations and verifications for all types of surveillance and weather radars, and satellite ground communication stations by considering technical, operational, environmental, and infrastructure conditions. We have assisted in siting more than 170 radars for the National Weather Service, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Defense, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellite programs (NESDIS and NPOESS). Our team works on all facets of the radar siting process from the initial site search based on map data, to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals before construction and deployment. This includes projecting radar coverage, analyzing clutter, and anomalous propagation; recommending operating frequencies; calculating human exposure for safety compliance; and assessing potential airspace penetration on or near airports.
