Special Operations Forces Network
SOFNET was designed and developed to satisfy the sustaining-base C2 requirements
established by the U.S. Army's 1st Special Operations Command, which has
evolved into an Army Major Command, the U.S. Army Special Operations Command
(USASOC). SOFNET has been integrated into the daily operations of USASOC,
and now consists of 19 LANs, a high-speed fiber-optic MAN, and a CONUS
WAN, which will be expanded to serve six CONUS and three OCONUS locations.
Over 400 computers of various types from many vendors have been integrated
into the system. SRI has also developed and delivered a facility to manage
and control the network in real time, and several command-unique applications.
