The quality of American life and our future prosperity depends on healthy, educated children, a skilled workforce, and job growth. For decades, government agencies, regions, foundations, and school districts have turned to SRI to help them address opportunities posed by complex issues in education and human services.

Our multidisciplinary teams of education researchers, sociologists, psychologists, political scientists, statisticians, and others develop research-based solutions to improve productivity and quality of life at home, school, and the workplace. Our goal is to apply research-based insights on how to improve learning and teaching in real-world settings.

Education and human services

SRI's Center for Education and Human Services focuses on children, youth, and families facing challenges from economic disadvantage, disability, teenage parenthood, neighborhood decay, and other risk factors. We examine the impact of policies and the effectiveness of programs at the federal, state, and local level, including community services, special education and disability policy, school partnerships, and early childhood programs.

Education policy

Education is critical to our nation's ability to maintain its competitive advantage, yet we know we are not doing all we can. SRI's Center for Education Policy evaluates the impact of a variety of educational programs, including improvement efforts for traditionally underrepresented students, models for education reform, initiatives aimed at raising the quality of teachers, and improving systems designed to educate adults. Our goal is to identify what works to improve education and to translate that information to policymakers.

Technology and learning

Technology is increasingly commonplace in the lives of students at home and in school. The question facing educators and policymakers is: how can we use technology to enhance the quality of learning for all children? SRI's Center for Technology in Learning addresses this question by evaluating large-scale educational innovations, designing assessments that enhance teaching and learning, developing tools to help students master complex ideas, enhancing online communities of learners, and offering strategic learning consulting services.
