Pablo E. Garcia
Principal Research Engineer, Engineering Research & Development Division

Pablo E. Garcia is a principal engineer at SRI, leading research in medical robotics. He has directed several robotic surgery projects for remote applications, including the development of a microsurgery robot and research into a robotic laser tissue welding platform for ophthalmic surgery. He also supported research for NASA to deploy and operate robots in extreme environments during the NEEMO 9 and 12 missions.
He recently developed a telementoring platform for surgical procedures which is to be deployed in theater. He is currently the principal investigator for the Trauma Pod project, focused on enabling better diagnostics and medical care in the battlefield. He has also led various complex biomedical device developments such as an apheresis machine and micro-dispensing of fluids for high throughput screening.
His research interests include medical devices, surgical robots and minimally invasive tools. To foster innovation in the development of medical devices, he co-founded MISTRAL in collaboration with Stanford University.
Mr. Garcia earned an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Madrid, Spain.
He holds six U.S. patents and has several patents pending related to medical technologies.
