In this podcast, Gita Shankar, director of formulations R&D, in SRI's Biosciences Division, explains how drugs taken by mouth offer many advantages to patients. But not all drugs are available that way. SRI researchers are working on developing oral formulations of drugs that can be taken in any setting, even far from medical care. Not only do oral drugs free patients from having to be in a hospital or clinic, but these type of drugs are easier to store and transport, and less expensive than IV options.
