SRI International Announces New VP for Biotechnology
Business Development, Michael Tracy
MENLO PARK, Calif. - February 15, 2002 - SRI International,
a leading independent scientific research institute based in Silicon
Valley, announced today that Michael Tracy, D.Phil., former vice
president of its Pharmaceutical Discovery Division, has taken a
new role at SRI as vice president for corporate business development
in biotechnology.
In this role, Dr. Tracy will create and lead strategic initiatives
in biotechnology, bioinformatics and proteomics to develop SRI's
market and client opportunities in these areas. He joins SRI's new
Ventures and Strategic Business Development team, which identifies
and develops high-value market opportunities for clients, and creates
R&D programs, licensing arrangements, and spin-off ventures to realize
those opportunities.
Dr. Tracy joined SRI in 1981 and held various research and management
positions before being named vice president of the Pharmaceutical
Discovery Division in 1996. His broad experience in directing multiple
drug discovery programs for clients in the United States, Japan
and Europe includes cancer chemotherapeutics, antiviral agents and
antibiotics. As vice president of the Division, Dr. Tracy oversaw
multidisciplinary research teams working on the synthesis and screening
of novel compounds for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Tracy has a D.Phil. in organic chemistry from the University
of Oxford, England. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the
University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada and received his B.Sc.
in chemistry from the University of Durham, England.
