SRI International Appoints Stanford Professor Charles A. Holloway to Board of Directors

MENLO PARK, California - Apr. 23, 2003 - SRI International, an independent research and development organization, today announced the appointment of Charles A. Holloway to its Board of Directors. A widely recognized expert in entrepreneurship, manufacturing strategy and technology management, Mr. Holloway is currently Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Professor of Management at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.

"Chuck Holloway's technical background and extraordinary understanding of entrepreneurial companies will be an asset to SRI's core research business and to its value creation process and strategy of spinning off new technology-based ventures," said Samuel Armacost, Chairman of SRI International's Board of Directors. Charles Holloway has held a variety of positions within Stanford's Graduate School of Business since joining the University in 1968. In addition to serving as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for seven years, Mr. Holloway has been an advocate for manufacturing and entrepreneurial education at the School of Business. In 1990 he founded the Alliance for Innovative Manufacturing at Stanford (formerly SIMA), a joint venture of the School of Business, the School of Engineering and a number of manufacturing companies. Currently he serves as a founding co-director of the Stanford Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. Prior to his career in education, Mr. Holloway was Assistant to the Technical Director of the Naval Reactors Branch of the Atomic Energy Commission and a senior engineer at Bechtel Corporation. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles and a B.S.E.E. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Holloway is co-author of numerous business publications including "The Perpetual Enterprise Machine: Seven Keys to Corporate Renewal Through Successful Product and Process Development" (Oxford University Press, 1994) and "Decision Making Under Uncertainty: Models and Choices" (Prentice Hall, 1979). He now serves on the boards of two private companies and during his time at Stanford has served on the boards of seven start-up companies and four public companies.
