SRI International Expands its Operations in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI—July 21 , 2009—SRI International, an independent nonprofit research institute, announced today it will expand its operations in Ann Arbor, Michigan. SRI, based in Menlo Park, California, opened its Ann Arbor location in January 2008. The expansion will take place adjacent to SRI’s existing offices at 2100 Commonwealth Blvd., in the Plymouth Park office complex.

SRI Ann Arbor is part of the institute’s Engineering & Systems Division, which has more than 500 staff members at facilities throughout the United States. The additional space has been leased for planned growth in 2009 and beyond. Future expansion plans in Ann Arbor may include the addition of experimental laboratory and test facilities.

SRI International has a long history of research and development contributions in many important areas, including advanced radar such as foliage-penetrating, ground-penetrating, and over-the-horizon radar. SRI Ann Arbor is extending SRI’s radar capabilities to other frequency bands, imaging modalities, and applications such as ocean sensing and hydrodynamics. SRI Ann Arbor is also pioneering the engineering applications of quantum phenomena to create sensors that will transcend the limits of classical physics, and for advanced communications and computing applications. Understanding quantum effects in biology is expected to lead to more efficient solar energy collection devices.

SRI Ann Arbor engineers and scientists work closely with the University of Michigan and other research organizations to prove the practical feasibility of potential applications of basic research breakthroughs.
