Stanford Scientist Thomas Kilduff Joins SRI International as Senior Program Director of Newly Formed Molecular Neurology Group
Menlo Park, Calif. (January 25, 1999) -- SRI International, a leading research institute based in Silicon Valley, today announced the appointment of Thomas Kilduff, Ph.D., to the position of senior program director. Dr. Kilduff will head a new group at SRI International that will complement the research institute's current work in neuroscience, including pharmacology and in vitro and in vivo assays for the design and development of new drugs
"Tom's background as a leading scientist in the molecular biology
of neurosciences, and his years as a prominent teacher and researcher
at top universities, will allow SRI International to expand its
research and development capabilities in the neurological sciences,"
said Michael Tracy, D. Phil., vice president of the Pharmaceutical
Discovery Division at SRI International. "It is our goal to
continue to set the pace for the development of new drugs, particularly
for the treatment of neurological disorders.
Dr. Kilduff comes from Stanford University where he was a senior research scientist at the Center for Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Psychiatry. He has also served as a visiting scientist in the Department of Molecular Biology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, as a visiting professor at the Istituto di Biologia Cellulare at the Universita degli Studi di Perugia in Perugia, Italy, and as a National Academy of Sciences National Research Council research associate at NASA-Ames Research Center. He has also served as a consultant for various governmental agencies and private foundations
Dr. Kilduff is charged with expanding SRI's current work in neuroscience and increasing efforts to build commercial business. He will be working directly with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute as well as other clients. He has authored or co-authored well over 100 published abstracts and scientific articles and book chapters. Dr. Kilduff has two patents pending. His research has been supported by government agencies such as the National Institute of Aging, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the US Army Research Office, as well as private foundations and pharmaceutical companies. He received his Ph.D. in the biological sciences from Stanford University
