Faster Infectious Disease Treatment - A Potential New Drug Target

Peter Madrid

Peter Madrid, Research Scientist, Center for Infectious Disease Research

January 19, 2012

In this podcast, Peter Madrid, a program director in SRI's Biosciences Division, discusses the latest SRI research on a new drug target that may potentially reduce infectious disease treatment time. This development is particularly important to tuberculosis (TB) treatment, since patients take a combination of at least four different drugs for six months. Such a long treatment time is a challenge for many patients, often leading them to stop treatment and, in turn, become drug resistant to TB treatments. These patients then face the challenge of an even longer treatment time, usually 18 to 24 months.
