DARPA Recognizes SRI International's Contributions with Award for Excellence by a Performer
MENLO PARK, Calif. – August 9, 2007 – SRI International, an independent, nonprofit research and development organization, announced today that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded SRI an Award for Sustained Excellence by a Performer for SRI's leadership role in the Personalized Assistant that Learns (PAL) program. This award is designed to recognize outstanding performance by contractors supporting DARPA programs.
"SRI is dedicated to solving the important needs of the U.S. government by developing innovative technology," said William Mark, Ph.D., vice president of Information and Computing Sciences at SRI International. "The PAL program could revolutionize how computers support decision-makers. We are developing a cognitive assistant that learns, generating innovative ideas that will result in new technology of significant value to the military -- and exciting new science."
Beyond participating in the research program, SRI leads teams from universities throughout the country, providing overall project management and system integration. The program brings together leading researchers from 25 organizations in artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-computer interaction, flexible planning, and behavioral studies.
