Reverse Engineering and Manufacturing Expertise to Safeguard Against Obsolete, Counterfeit, or Trojan Horse Microcircuits
Sarnoff Corporation announced today that it has been awarded a contract to enhance its existing microcircuit reverse engineering capabilities used for the remanufacturing of obsolete military quality microcircuits for the Department of Defense (DoD) under the Industrial Base Innovation Fund (IBIF). The $1.6 Million, two-year contract is sponsored by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Ft. Belvoir, VA.
Sarnoff will provide microcircuit reverse engineering capabilities that will be integrated into DLA’s Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME) Program. The reverse engineering technology is used to recreate the incomplete or missing design data necessary to remanufacture or emulate the microcircuit. The reverse engineering techniques will also be used to support certifications regarding the trustworthiness of microcircuits entering the military supply chain from non-U.S. manufacturing locations as directed by the Department of Defense.
“Obsolete, counterfeit or “Trojan horse” microcircuits can adversely impact the military electronics supply chains,” said Dr. Don Newsome, President and CEO of Sarnoff Corporation. “With Sarnoff microcircuit emulation technology, the DoD can assure the warfighter a safe and reliable long-term source of microcircuits.”
Sarnoff brings vast microcircuit emulation and reverse engineering experience to bear on behalf of the DoD. For over two decades, the Emulation Products and Technology division of Sarnoff has operated under the Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) and AME programs, developed in partnership with the DLA and Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) as a solution for microcircuits in the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Materials Shortages (DMSMS) market. Sarnoff is an accredited member of the Department of Defense Trusted Foundry Program and a recipient of the DSCC Golden Supplier Award.
