SRI International Announces Release of Karto Open Libraries 2.0

KartoMay 3, 2010SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development institute, has released version 2.0 of SRI's Karto™ Open Libraries. The product is available for download here. SRI's Karto™ Open Libraries 2.0 has been released under the Lesser General Public License (LGPL).

"Karto enables software developers of mobile robot solutions to integrate navigation and mapping intelligence into their designs," said Regis Vincent, Ph.D., program manager, SRI Artificial Intelligence Center. "This updated version includes significant new features, such as allowing developers to work directly with Karto's core technology by providing open-source access to its mapping library."

SRI's Karto Open Libraries 2.0 will be followed by the release of the full Karto Software Development Kit (SDK) 2.0 expected in June 2010.

Software developers can begin programming with the new open-source version and will be able to easily switch to the full Karto SDK 2.0 version once it's available. Both versions are application programming interface (API) compatible.
