SRI International Education Researchers Barbara Means and Jeremy Roschelle Discuss Impact of Technology on Learning at Stanford University Futures of Learning Series

MENLO PARK, Calif. – May 16, 2007 – SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development organization, today announced that SRI researchers Barbara Means and Jeremy Roschelle are featured speakers on May 23rd at The Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning monthly lecture series, "Futures of Learning."  Drs. Means and Roschelle, co-directors of the Center for Technology in Learning at SRI International, will discuss recent findings from two studies of the effectiveness of technology in education.  

The recent U.S. Department of Education study, "Effectiveness of Educational Technology Interventions", found no effects across a number of technology-based programs, while an NSF-funded SimCalc study found significant gains in student performance. The goal of the discussion is to look beneath the headlines to understand what the different studies tell us about the effectiveness of technology in real classrooms at scale.

The Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning monthly lecture series, "Futures of Learning", is designed to inform members of the Stanford community as well as local citizens about developments of critical importance in education today.
