SRI International to Host 15th Annual Biotech Investing Conference
MENLO PARK, Calif. – September 27, 2007 – SRI International, in conjunction with IBF Conferences, will host the 15th Annual Biotech Investing Conference on November 5 and 6, 2007 at SRI headquarters in Menlo Park, California. The conference, titled "Building The Next Generation of Successful Biotech Companies," is a forum for industry leaders in biotech to discuss the trends in private and public funding, innovative business strategies, new alternative partners, and the impact of global competition.
In its fourteen previous years, the IBF Biotech Investing Conference has led the discussion of changing funding patterns, challenges, and opportunities. As drug development continues to evolve, this conference provides a rare opportunity for the widening range of stakeholders to share best practices and anticipate future trends. The goal of the conference is to foster connections among these stakeholders, providing opportunity and strategic advantage.
Like the participants in drug development, the panelists and audience for this conference are diverse. Participants include venture capitalists and private equity investors, business and licensing executives from biotech and pharmaceutical companies, public and privately held venture- or angel-backed biotech companies, pharmaceutical industry executives and corporate venture capitalists, foundations and venture philanthropists, government administrators of programs for new and established companies, academic innovators, investment bankers, and service providers to the industry.
At the conference, panelists from leading institutions will discuss the latest initiatives in biotech investing, including:
- Trends in venture and private equity investing
- Foundation support for translational development and start-ups
- Changing models in Big Pharma
- Emerging challenges and opportunities in global pharmaceutical development
- The biotech exit outlook
This year, the conference expands with a pre-conference workshop to provide detailed case studies of funding opportunities in the public and private sector. Many of these established and emerging sources are bridging the gaps in the transition from discovery to clinic and providing potential solutions to the anticipated pipeline gap. Workshop sessions include:
- Corporate venture capital
- Successful partnering with the federal government- from entrepreneurial support to biodefense
- Emerging venture philanthropies
- Innovative models in academia
