SRI International’s Integrated Training Program Enhances “Ardent Sentry” National Crisis Simulation Exercise

SRI to Provide Training and Simulation Support for National Guard

MENLO PARK, Calif. – May 9, 2007 – SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development organization, today announced its participation in the Ardent Sentry national training exercise, a multi-agency simulation of a national crisis. SRI’s participation will take place at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC), near Butlerville, Indiana from May 10 – May 12.

SRI will provide a live demonstration of the Joint Training Experimentation Program (JTEP), a readiness training system that creates a realistic environment through the integration of live exercises with computer-based simulators to enhance training for both combat and Military Assistance to Civilian Authority (MACA) missions.

Specific technologies demonstrated will include:

  • Vehicle and individual tracking in 2D and 3D
  • Geo-referenced 3D virtual terrain of the training area
  • Simulated hazardous areas
  • Simulated victims
  • Video of participants synchronized with exercise data for after-action review

“SRI is proud to support this important emergency simulation exercise by providing JTEP technology that can greatly increase training effectiveness and coordination between first-responders,” said John Shockley, SRI International program manager. “Last year, SRI supported California National Guard’s 95th Civil Support Team and first-responders in the NOVEX multi-agency exercise facilitated by the California Office of Emergency Services (OES). Ardent Sentry provides an opportunity for homeland defense and civilian first-responders to enhance training effectiveness, coordination, and preparation in a realistic environment.”

SRI’s participation in Ardent Sentry is sponsored by the National Guard Bureau’s Domestic Operations (J3) and Joint Force Development, Doctrine and Training Directorate (J7) and the JTEP Program. Civil Support Teams and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High-Yield Explosive Enhanced Response Force Package units from Indiana and Ohio will participate in the JTEP demonstrations.
