SRI International Welcomes Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen to Advance Denmark’s Global Initiative on Innovation

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- June 12, 2006 -- SRI International, an independent, nonprofit research and development organization, today announced that Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen will visit SRI International on Monday, June 12, 2006. The Prime Minister’s visit to Silicon Valley’s premier research institute is part of Denmark’s  initiative to position the country as a leading knowledge-based economy by 2010.

During his visit, Prime Minister Rasmussen will meet with SRI President and CEO Curtis R. Carlson and learn how SRI’s culture supports research and innovations that have created new industries and transformed lives around the world.

SRI International was chosen as an important stop during the Prime Minister’s U.S. tour because of the organization’s passionate drive for innovation and its role as a key instrument in the development of Silicon Valley.

"We are honored to host Prime Minister Rasmussen, and look forward to discussing how SRI’s expertise in value creation and our commitment to addressing important market needs can be a resource to Danish innovation," said Curtis R. Carlson, Ph.D. "As global competition and cooperation increase rapidly, Denmark’s focus on innovation and international partnerships, which will enhance education, research, and business development, will become a critical part of Denmark’s competitiveness."

"SRI is exploring potential partnerships with Denmark in emerging new market areas," added Norman Winarsky, Ph.D., Vice President, Ventures and Strategic Programs at SRI International.

The Danish government recently opened an Innovation Center Denmark in Silicon Valley to foster the growth of Danish technology-based companies in the United States. The U.S. is Denmark’s largest trade partner outside the EU, with a total export value exceeding $45 billion.
