SRI to Lead Workshop on Leveraging Regional Economic and Workforce Strengths at Workforce Innovations 2006
MENLO PARK, Calif. -- June 8, 2006 -- SRI International, an independent, nonprofit research and development organization, today announced that three leaders within its Center for Science, Technology and Economic Development (CSTED) will present a session titled, "Assessment to Action: Leveraging Your Region’s Economic and Workforce Strengths" at the Workforce Innovation 2006 conference on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 1:45p.m.
"In today’s knowledge-based economy, educational status and technological skills can be a competitive advantage and strong contributor to a region’s overall economic prosperity," said Lynne Manrique, senior political economist with SRI CSTED and workshop co-host. "However, regional leaders often find it difficult to quantify competitiveness in these areas. This workshop will provide tactics for assessment and a road-map for improvement, using real-world examples."
Workshop attendees will learn about specific tools that can pinpoint workforce strengths and weaknesses, including the key indicators that regions can use to objectively define their educational quality, workforce characteristics and technology capacity, and how to build a framework for a knowledge-based workforce and economic growth.
The presenters of the workshop are three senior members of SRI International’s Center for Science, Technology and Economic Development: Lynne Manrique, a senior political economist with SRI CSTED, with more than 15 years of experience in developing economic competitiveness and workforce opportunities; Kathleen Vickland, a senior economist with SRI CSTED, with more than 20 years of experience in economic and workforce innovation and a specialty in participatory strategic planning and implementation to enhance sector-level competitiveness; and Ophelia Yeung, senior economist and deputy director of the Economics Practice within SRI CSTED, who is a specialist in competitiveness assessment, industry cluster analysis and human resources development strategies.
