Demo Day at Quantico to Show Augmented Reality Technology Advancing Real-World Military Training

Technical briefing about augmented reality for training, followed by demonstrations of latest capabilities from SRI International.

Augmented reality uses computer graphics and special head-mounted displays to insert virtual actors and objects into a scene.

The virtual actors respond in realistic ways, whether the situation is hostile or safe.

Demo visitors will have an opportunity to wear the augmented reality system and experience it themselves.

Demos to include:

  • Marines outfitted with augmented reality kits clearing the school area of hostile virtual characters.
  • Tracking of Marine movements in GPS-denied environments, even when walking through smoke.
  • Augmented reality as seen through binoculars.
  • Tablet PC repair using virtual environment. The demo will show how augmented reality could also be used to fix machinery and vehicles.
