SRI International Sarnoff Miniature Digital Data Link Delivers Improved Video from Unmanned Systems
Menlo Park, Calif. –August 7, 2012–A new digital data link and video processor from SRI International Sarnoff enhances the quality of video images transmitted from unmanned aerial and ground vehicles. The DL Micro™ ultra-compact module increases image compression efficiency to improve the clarity and usefulness of video from moving vehicles.

It reduces size and power consumption even as it improves video quality.”
The DL Micro module, designed for integration into small vehicles, combines H.264 encoding and an IP-based digital data link with proven image stabilization. The unit weighs 46 grams and typically consumes 5.8 watts during transmission, making it ideal for size, weight, and power (SWaP) constrained applications.
Built-in electronic image stabilization makes a meaningful difference in image quality. Without image stabilization, video from moving vehicles is shaky and difficult for operators to interpret. Critical information can become ambiguous or compromised. In addition, image shake degrades data compression, diverting precious bandwidth away from detail. With the DL Micro digital data link, stabilized video compresses at higher quality and is easier for operators to interpret.
Other features of the DL Micro module include image enhancement, support for standard digital camera modules, Microhard Systems IPnDDL transmitter, IP network compatibility, and web-based configuration manager.
