SRI International Event to Celebrate Six Decades of World-Changing Innovation

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- October 25, 2006 -- SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development organization, today announced plans for its 60th anniversary celebration at the Computer History Museum on November 6, 2006.

  • Who: SRI International (www.sri.com)
  • What: SRI (the former Stanford Research Institute) will celebrate 60 years of world-changing innovations with SRI staff members from the past and present. Dr. Curtis Carlson, SRI's president and CEO, will deliver a keynote address, followed by a panel discussion of SRI luminaries moderated by noted technology forecaster Paul Saffo. The panel will include:
  • Paul Cook, one of the most successful and prolific innovators and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley history
  • Douglas Engelbart, visionary inventor of the computer mouse and other foundations of personal computing
  • Phil Green, whose contributions to the fields of ultrasonic imaging and "robotic" surgery have had tremendous impact on the practice of medicine
  • Donald Nielson, who played a key role in developing some of the institute’s most celebrated computer communication innovations
