The Impact on Industry of Interaction with Engineering Research Centers Repeat Study 2004 Conducted for the National Science Foundation, this study repeated, in modified form, the original 1997 study with a second generation of ERCs that began operation in 1994-1996. This study, completed in 2004, identified the specific benefits industrial ERC members receive from their use of ERC activities and resources such as research outputs, access to facilities, and technical advice from faculty, and provided measures of the overall impact on firms of their ERC membership.
The Impact on Industry
of Interaction with Engineering Research Centers 1997
This large scale study is based primarily on a survey of about 450 companies
that participate in all 18 (as of 1994) of NSF's Engineering Research
Centers. The methodology also includes case studies, a focus group,
and follow-up telephone interviews. The primary purpose of the study
is to identify and analyze the benefits companies realize through their
participation in the ERCs.
