Human Sleep Research Program: Volunteer Opportunities
To understand more about the human brain, the Human Sleep Research Program in SRI's Center for Health Sciences studies sleep and conducts tests of the nervous system during sleep. Our work includes government-funded studies of human sleep patterns, for which we often seek paid volunteers. Volunteers must travel to SRI's Human Sleep Research Laboratory in Menlo Park, California for participation.
Currently available volunteer opportunities include:
ADOLESCENT BRAIN DEVELOPMENT — Older Adolescents
Principal Investigator: Mayra L. Padilla, Ph.D., Neuroscientist, SRI International
This study examines changes in brain structure and cognitive function across adolescence. We are looking for participants between the ages of 14 and 18. The study will require either one full day or two half-days of testing. Each child will need to be accompanied by one parent during all testing sessions. Testing sessions can be scheduled at your convenience. There are NO overnight sessions required for this study. All testing procedures will be conducted at SRI International in Menlo Park, CA.
We are currently recruiting adolescents 14 to 18 years old for this study. If you are interested in participating or would like more information on this study, contact us at (650) 859-3251 or email brain-study@sri.com.
SLEEP QUALITY IN MENOPAUSAL WOMEN
Principal Investigator: Fiona C. Baker, Ph.D., Sleep Physiologist, SRI International
Sleep complaints are common during the transition to menopause yet we have little understanding of what drives this increase in sleep disturbance and how best to treat it. The purpose of this pilot study is to investigate subjective and objective sleep quality in women going through menopause who experience poor sleep quality compared with good sleepers.
This study is currently recruiting. If you are interested in participating or would like more information on this study, contact us at (650) 859-3251 or email sleep@sri.com.
