Statistical Analysis Program

statistical analysis programThe Statistical Analysis Program in SRI's Center for Health Sciences provides statistical support services for projects in a wide variety of subject areas, including biostatistics, economics, education, chemistry, survey research, engineering, marketing, quality management, environmental analysis and litigation. 

Our services include:

  • Assisting in formulating research questions so that they are amenable to statistical analysis

  • Determining the data necessary to address those questions
  • Estimating available precision and power

  • Reliability analyses
  • Selecting and weighting complex samples
  • Randomization of subjects to treatments
  • Database management

  • Statistical analyses and documentation of outcomes

  • Serving as expert witnesses in litigation

We also serve as the Data Coordinating Center for two clinical projects: PAPCA (Prospective Assessment of Pediatric Cardiac Ablation) and CHART (Centers for Heart Failure Arrhythmia Research and Therapy), and we provide statistical assistance to the NBRCC (National Behavioral Research Coordinating Center).

Clients

The Statistical Analysis Program has provided consulting services for a wide variety of clients, including:

  • U.S. government clients: Department of Education, National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, Office of Naval Research, Department of Commerce, National Institutes of Health, NIOSH, Army Medical Research and Development Command, U.S. Geological Survey, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, and Department of Transportation

  • California government clients: the Department of Health Services, Office of Attorney General, Public Utilities Commission, Air Resources Board, Department of Education, First Five Commission, and the Tobacco Related Disease Research Program

  • Foundation and university clients: Stanford University, Ohio State University, the Gates Foundation, the Education Leaders Council, Packard Foundation, Fulbright Foundation, University of Southern California, the Packard Foundation, and the Western Consortium for Public Health

The Program is led by Harold Javitz, Ph.D.  Additional SRI staff with appropriate expertise are called upon to participate on an as-needed basis.
