MISSILE LAUNCH TESTS

In Support of the Development of the THAADS Missile System

SRI performed a series of simulated hot launch tests for Northrop Grumman in support of the THAADS Missile System development program conducted by Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. The launch tests and the assembly of prototype missile launch hardware were performed at Area 2 of the remote test site. The launches involved firing a short-burn rocket motor, which propelled a model missile out of the launch canister, creating a realistic initial launch environment in the launch system area. The missile and launch hardware were instrumented to provide data on their performance and to measure the environment. Comprehensive video documentation of setup and test procedures along with high-speed photography of the launches proved very useful in evaluating and presenting test results.
