Ceramic Joining Techniques
SRI has developed innovative approaches to joining ceramics creating joints
capable of retaining their strength even at high temperatures in excess of 1000oC. These advances are based on SRI's expertise in the areas of glasses,
preceramic polymers, and active metal fillers.
Advantage
Methods of joining ceramics-ceramics to ceramics and ceramics to metals-are
essential for manufacturing and production of large, complex structures. Other
joining approaches involve the use of brazes and special glasses, which do not
have the capability to withstand high-temperatures or corrosive conditions.
Opportunity
SRI's joining technology can be modified and licensed for a wide spectrum of
materials and commercial applications, such as engines, processing equipment and
aerospace.
