Ceramic Joining Techniques

SRI has developed innovative approaches to joining ceramics creating joints capable of retaining their strength even at high temperatures in excess of 1000^oC. These advances are based on SRI's expertise in the areas of glasses, preceramic polymers, and active metal fillers.

Advantage
Methods of joining ceramics-ceramics to ceramics and ceramics to metals-are essential for manufacturing and production of large, complex structures. Other joining approaches involve the use of brazes and special glasses, which do not have the capability to withstand high-temperatures or corrosive conditions.

Opportunity
SRI's joining technology can be modified and licensed for a wide spectrum of materials and commercial applications, such as engines, processing equipment and aerospace.
