New Polymerization Catalysts
SRI is developing a new group of catalysts for producing improved
polymers to meet the needs of a rapidly growing polymer industry.
Among SRI's recent advances include a patented catalyst system for
producing multimodal polyolefins. Other patents are pending as our
team continues to discover, develop, and find uses for the new polymerization technologies.
Advantage
SRI's new bimodal polymer products are easier and less costly to
process, and they perform with greater strength and elasticity than
competitive offerings. Products created using SRI's new polymer
technology also offer environmental benefits, such as enhanced
recyclability.
Opportunity
In 1998 alone, $70 billion worth of polyolefins were sold worldwide,
and the market is expected to continue to grow at 6% per
year. Licensing opportunities are available for this adaptable SRI
technology. Potential commercial uses include improved grocery and
trash bags, industrial liners, blown film, stretch wrap, construction
and agricultural film, and plastic cups and bottles.
