Luminescent Taggants

Luminescent taggants, used for identification tags such as bar codes, are created using SRI-proprietary manufacturing processes. SRI has developed several coating technologies that modify the surface composition of phosphors for fuel tagging or inkjet applications. These man-made materials have unique optical and physical properties. The particles are easily detected due to zero background, have stable luminescent properties, and are chemically inert. A large selection of colors can be combined for unique sample identification. SRI's process also uses a small particle size, which enables inkjet application for "secure" documents or for bar code applications.

SRI is working with commercial partners to develop these taggants into commercial products for identification and authentication uses. Our team holds three patents on the research.
