Sensor Systems Laboratory
SRI's Sensor Systems Laboratory (SSL) conducts basic and applied research in the areas of chemical and biological sensor systems, electro-optical and remote sensors, and laser-based diagnostics. SSL develops innovative new sensor concepts, demonstrates them in the laboratory, and engineers them into robust fieldable systems.
Applications include:
- Sensors for defense and intelligence applications
- Chemical and biological warfare defense
- Optical remote sensing
- Environmental and industrial monitoring
- Trace gas detection
- Sensors for medical diagnostics
- BioMEMS
Current areas of research include:
- Compact chemical and biological sensors
- Sensor modeling and phenomenology
- Frequency agile lidar systems for chemical agent detection
- Laser crosswind sensing
- Lidar systems, phenomenology, and modeling
Our staff have expertise in the disciplines of physics, chemistry, optics, electrical engineering, and bioengineering.
